Award-Winning Demolition: Inside the Valleywise Health Project
In commercial construction, building from the ground up is only half the battle. Often, progress requires bringing down the old to make way for the new. The PENTA Building Group was recently recognized for an award-winning demolition phase at the Valleywise Health medical campus in Phoenix, Arizona—a project that highlights our technical precision in highly sensitive environments.
The Challenge: Demolition on an Active Campus
Demolishing a multi-story concrete structure is challenging; doing so in the center of an active, operational hospital campus is a monumental logistical hurdle. PENTA was tasked with safely bringing down the legacy structures without disrupting ongoing patient care, emergency vehicle routing, or critical hospital utilities.
Mastering Infection Control Risk Assessment (ICRA)
In healthcare construction, dust and vibration are critical safety hazards. During the Valleywise demolition, PENTA implemented rigorous Infection Control Risk Assessment (ICRA) protocols. We utilized advanced dust mitigation technologies, continuous vibration monitoring, and highly coordinated surgical demolition techniques to protect the surrounding immunocompromised patients and sensitive medical equipment.
Disciplined Execution
Winning an award for demolition speaks directly to PENTA’s preconstruction planning and field leadership. Through detailed 3D modeling and phase-planning, our team identified utility clashes and structural risks long before the first excavator arrived on site.
The successful clearing of the Valleywise campus paves the way for the next generation of healthcare in Phoenix, proving that PENTA executes with precision from day one until final completion.
